The Hatchback of Earthly Delights

This was a feature story I worked on with Darin Johnson the Creative Director of Car and Driver Magazine. The Veloster was such a crazy looking car that he had the idea of combing the The Garden of Earthly Delights painting with the Hyundai Veloster images.

At first I was very confused and was unsure as to how this was going to work. The best part about working with Darin is that he comes to me with these really great ideas and lets me do my thing to bring them to life. So most of the time it is a matter of sitting down and working it out in photoshop.

For the opening image he wanted me to combine the cars into the world of the painting and for the rest of the story he wanted me to include parts of the painting into the images of the cars. I kept getting more and more excited about this job as I got into it.

For the opening image I tried pulling as many car photos as I could to add into the painting. Darin did have a comp for me to refer to with some room to add my own touch. I then had to add the reflections of the environments into the cars so they looked like they were actually in their environments. If you look closely you can see 8 cars.

For this image I took some of the characters and brought them into the foreground and then used some of the trees and incorporated them into the environment. Finally overlaying the paint texture over all the images to tie them back to the opening spread.

Here I wanted to have one of the characters looking into the window as if they were checking out the car. Along with the forest in the background.

In this image they had a person sitting in the car to display the head room which I replaced with on of the people from the painting.

This image was one of the herder ones. The image was in motion so whatever characters I brought in had to be motion-ized so I looked for something that made it look like they were checking out the car as it was passing by. Then I brought in the trees from the painting and added a motion blur to the layeres I add to the photo.

New York, The Twin Towers & The Brooklyn Bridge 1997

When I was 17 years old my Dad took me on a trip to New York. At the time I was in Jr. in High School and one of my art projects was to shoot a panorama. I decided to do some images of the Twin Towers and the Brooklyn Bridge.

It has been 14 years and I finally to bring them together in Photoshop. I created these images scanning them in with an old Epson Perfection 2400 and using the original 4x6 photos. I do not have the original negatives. The camera was a old Canon Rebel EOS 35mm.

After scanning the images I used photomerge to bring the photos together in PS5 and then adjusted the image coloring in Light Room.

Jaguar Advertorial

Images were created for Car & Driver Magazine using images that Jaguar had shot for some other purpose. It may have been for Advertising or Catalog.

These 3 cars were shot separately and brought in together. The sky is also a separate image combing also some of the other skies from the individual shots. The asphalt and shadows were created from scratch.

RT:The road was extended down to the bottom of the page. while adjustments were made to the car and sky.

LF: I brought together the sky and the foreground car and street.

I composited the images together to be used for ads with in Car & Driver Magazine.

All images were created using a combination of LightRoom and Photoshop.
